Carnival Mardi Gras
We call Carnival Jubilee™'s onboard burger spot Guy’s Burger Joint™. We teamed up with Guy Fieri to design not just the burgers and fries, but to help bring in the kind of rustic atmosphere you’d find at a roadside burger shack somewhere off a coastal highway. All signs point to ambiance — and serious flavor — so try a burger dressed up the way Guy likes it, or take it off-roading… to the nearby topping bar, where you can make it your own. Carnival Jubilee™ has its own Punchliner Comedy Club in the Grand Central zone, and up on stage you’ll find some real pros who know how to wedge a little laughter into anyone’s evening. Since some of them get up and say exactly what’s on their mind, we also schedule family-friendly performances… so the only red faces in the audience are from laughing a little too hard.
Carnival Conquest – 2002
The majority of Carnival’s ships offer cruises to the Caribbean and Bahamas that range from three days to over a week. A few vessels are based on the West Coast as well as a couple in Australia. Carnival Firenze is one of the newer ships coming to the fleet, and though it’s not the largest, it provides exceptional amenities and experiences for passengers. Carnival Liberty is 110,000 GRTs and carries 2,980 passengers (based on two per cabin). She is the fourth ship to be built in the popular Conquest Class and sister to Carnival Conquest, Carnival Valor, Carnival Freedom, and Carnival Glory. Carnival Jubilee is the third ship in the Excel Class and sister to Carnival Celebration and Mardi Gras.

During my recent sailing, I found all the Carnival classics, like the Alchemy Bar and Guy’s Burger Joint, a thrilling ropes course, dive-in movies, and plenty of themed deck parties. Rent cabanas or lounge in the ocean-view whirlpools at Loft 19, where attentive staff take care of everything, like delivering you fruit and chilled towels. My favorite spot to hang out was the aft Patio Pool because it wasn't ever super crowded, and the view of the ocean was unmatched. Carnival Jubilee is the newest Excel-class ship in the fleet, sailing from Galveston, Texas.
If you're wondering where the pool and whirlpool are, we're so alike, you and us... And that's why we're sure you're gonna love The Watering Hole, a poolside bar we're building for aficionados of backyard-style relaxation. And for military folks — or folks who just want to raise a glass to them — please report to Heroes Tribute™ Lounge for great service. We know you guys like soft serve too, so we're throwing in a Swirls™ location — one of two!
$1 Billion USD is the approximate price of a new Carnival cruise ship (Mardi Gras) currently – this is due to the size and facilities on the ships. In comparison, Carnival Sunshine cost just $409 million when she was built in 1996. You can filter the Carnival fleet by ship class using the box below.

The biggest Carnival ships are Carnival Celebration (2022) and Carnival Jubilee, which will set sail for the line in late 2023. They're tied in terms of size, each coming in at 183,521 gross tons and carrying 5,374 passengers at capacity. Go ahead and call Summer Landing 'the greatest chill spot at sea'... What's three letters long and goes great with chilling outdoors?
This ship entered service in 2000 as the former Destiny Class ship named the Carnival Victory. Carnival Freedom is 110,000 GRTs and carries 2,980 passengers (based on two per cabin). The ship is the fifth ship to be built in the Conquest Class and sister to Carnival Conquest, Carnival Valor, Carnival Liberty, and Carnival Glory. With two to nine-day cruises from Tampa to the Caribbean and the Bahamas, Carnival Paradise literally takes cruisers to paradise islands. The ship brims with fun amenities like the WaterWorks splash zone and the relaxing Cloud 9 Spa. For an extended cruise from Tampa, Florida, or Baltimore, Maryland, look to Carnival Pride.

There's now at least one waterslide on all but one ship in the Carnival fleet (Carnival Luminosa) — something no other line can say. BlueIguana is a Chipotle-style restaurant, with yummy made-to-order burritos and tacos. Created in partnership with Food Network's Guy Fieri, Guy's Burger Joint offers burgers that beat anything you'll find around the pool on other mass-market ships and even most luxury vessels. Where you won't find Carnival ships, notably, is in Asia, South America or, for the most part, Europe.
I hope you have enjoyed some of the history and tidbits about the Carnival Cruise Line fleet as we explored the newest carnival ships in the fleet. Previously known as Costa Firenze, this is also a Vista-class ship, and a sister ship to Costa Venezia, which will have joined the Carnival fleet a year prior. Both of these ships are retaining their Costa funnels and a will have modified hull art as a nod to their Italian roots and unique style. Carnival Firenze will join the fleet in spring 2024 after being transferred from sister brand Costa Cruise Lines. The ship will offer a variety of cruises year-round, with sailings set for popular destinations in Baja, California and the Mexican Riviera. This ship sailed under the name Costa Firenze with Costa and is also a Vista Class ship and sister to the Costa Venezia which has already joined the Carnival fleet.
Mardi Gras is the first ship in the Carnival’s Excellence Class or Excel Class and sister to the Carnival Celebration. She is 180,800 GRTs and carries 5,282 passengers (based on two per cabin). Note, The Mardi Gras is the only ship name in the current Carnival Cruise Line fleet without including the word Carnival.
If you're sure you know what sort of cabin you want, on which ship, on which itinerary — and about a dozen other things — you can head over to Carnival.com to book directly. In fact, the lower tiers of the Carnival program are among the most stingy in the entire cruise universe. You'll receive things like a single complimentary bottle of water (at the Red tier) and a single free drink that only can be ordered on the last night of a cruise (at the Gold tier). Carnival has a point-based frequent cruiser program, the VIFP Club, that has five tiers, ranging from Blue (requiring no points) to Diamond (200 points). During the evenings, there is an official dress code, but it's pretty laid-back. Most nights are designated "cruise casual," which means just that — khakis or jeans, polo shirts, sundresses, etc.
Due to the design of this class ship, she is popular on cruises in Alaska and can transit the Panama Canal. The vessel is 183,521 gross tons with a guest capacity of 5,372 at double occupancy, along with 1,735 crew members. Carnival Celebration is based in Miami, Florida, and also takes the name of a previous Carnival cruise ship, Celebration, that was part of the holiday class. She wasn’t built for the cruise line but was the first ship for the newly formed Ted Arison Carnival Cruise Line at the time. The ship started sailing for Carnival in 1972, and the “Fun Ships” have kept coming ever since!
Mardi Gras is Carnival’s latest ship and entered service in 2021. However, it was refurbished in 2017 and is due to return in late 2022. Carnival has had some ships with fires and engine issues over the years, but these are few and far between. It proved very popular and the business grew quickly to take on a second ship in 1975 (calling it Carnivale) and the third ship in 1978. Carnival primarily caters to the North American market with a lot of onboard activities, dining and entertainment geared towards the American clientele. The ship was also constructed in Finland at the cost of 315 million.
Following the global pandemic and multiple delays, Mardi Gras finally began sailing on July 31, 2021, from Port Canaveral in Florida. The ship that takes its name from the original Holiday-class Jubilee will homeport from Galveston, Texas, and sail seven-day Western Caribbean itineraries. Carnival Jubilee was delivered to the cruise line on December 4 during an event in Bremerhaven, Germany. The vessel was constructed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. In 2019, Carnival Cruise Line gave the cruise ship a massive $200 million renovation and a name change to Carnival Sunrise. The vessel originally debuted in 1999 and was the second Destiny class ship.
